Claypool, Gary Don 'Pool'
Gary Don “Pool” Claypool, 57, of North English, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at his home. Memorial visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Powell Funeral Home in North English. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Parnell Hall from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday, June 2.
Gary was born Sept. 5, 1954, in Iowa City, to Don and Ruth (Moffit) Claypool and graduated from English Valleys High School. He married Marsha Wade and they were later divorced. A lifelong resident of North English, Gary drove a semi for the last 25 years, most recently for Westside Transportation.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed grilling, going for walks with Brandi and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan. He especially enjoyed his dog, Maggie.
Survivors include a daughter:, Brandi (Brian) Vercande of North English; two sons, Garyn Claypool of North English and Jason (Sarah) Lehnst of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Peityn Claypool, J.C. and Shayler Vercande; his father, Don (Pat) Claypool of South English; four sisters, Wanda (Malcolm) Schwenke of Longview, Texas, Carolyn (Doug) Atwood of Jensen Beach, Fla., Debra (James) Sopko of Palm City, Fla., and Suzanne Claypool of Cedar Rapids; seven nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
A general memorial fund has been established.
