Claussen, Donald H.
MARION - Donald H. Claussen, 73, of Marion, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Promise House in Hiawatha. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion, by the Rev. Kevin Jones. Family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Marlys; children, Becky of Moline, Ill., and Mark of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Veda Largent; and siblings, Elsena Hohensee of Albert City, Harvey (Caroll) Schoon of Fort Dodge and Marlene (Pat) Flaherty of Pocahontas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Frank Schoon; and two sisters, Anita Engel and Mardella Janssen.
Don was born May 28, 1937, in Palmer, Iowa, the son of Heike and Anna (Ihnen) Claussen. Don served in the United States Army and Army Reserve. On May 29, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marlys Ann Madsen at West Liberty. Don earned degrees in social work from Wartburg College and the University of Nebraska, and worked for Iowa DHS, Lutheran Family Service, and for 21 years at Grant Wood Area Education Agency.
He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, where he belonged to the choir, The Older Hymns, served on many committees, and taught youth and adult Sunday school.
