Clausen, Alfred J.
Alfred J. Clausen, 81, of Central City, died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City, with military honors.
Survivors include his children, Ward (Vivian) Clausen of Central City and Linda (Ron) Bruns of Central City; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and sisters, Ruby Harold of Modesto, Calif., and Mary (Robert) Weed of Taylorville, Ill. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; brothers, Clarence, Floyd and Leo Clausen; and sisters, Pearl Power and Esther Walker.
Alfred was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Riceville, the son of Harold and Dorthea (Toftdahl) Clausen. He married Doris B. Martin on Sept. 17, 1949, in Charles City. Doris died Jan. 2, 2001. Alfred was a longtime farmer, owned and operated Clausen Equipment Inc. in Waverly, and worked as a letter carrier for 20 years for the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U.S. National Guard from 1947 to 1952 and was discharged as a sergeant. Alfred was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
A memorial fund has been established in Alfred's name.
