Claudine Violet "Dea" Brown, 83, longtime resident and former teacher in Iowa City, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at Mercy Hospital.
Dea was born Sept. 2, 1937, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Oswald and Marion (Mangold) Falconer. She graduated from Coggon High School in 1956. She moved to Iowa City and attended the University of Iowa receiving her degree in education. On Aug. 13, 1961, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald
R. Brown, in Manchester, Iowa. After a few years in several Iowa and Illinois smaller communities, the couple and their family made their home in Iowa City. Dea enjoyed teaching elementary education for several years at Lincoln and Hoover Elementary schools.
Dea was an active member at the First United Methodist Church for many years, she was a member of PEO, the Red Hat Society, the University of Iowa Women's club and a proud participant in the Ladies of Buresh Avenue outings. Dea was an avid supporter of her husband and son's athletic events over the 40 years that Don coached at City High. Family was always central in her life and very dear to her heart. Throughout the years, Dea continued to follow and be a part of all of her grandchildren's activities and was so very proud of each and every one of them.
Upon retirement, Dea and Don spent the last 25 years wintering in Gulf Shores, Ala. These were some of her favorite years as she was able to attend countless gatherings with many of her very best friends from all over the country. Dea always found the good in everyone and was a loyal and dear friend.
Dea is survived by her husband of over 59 years, Don; and their two sons, Mark and (Julie) Brown of Iowa City, Iowa, their children, Conner, Kennedy and Kieler; and Brent and (Mary) Brown of Plainfield, Ill., and their children, Logan and Lauren.
