Clark, Ruth (Hawley)
Ruth (Hawley) Clark, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at her daughter's home in Anamosa of lung cancer. A gathering will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Marty (Don) Harper of Anamosa, Paul Clark of Cedar Rapids and Marlin Clark of Martelle; her siblings, Dale (Jan) Hawley of Manhattan, Kan., Charles (Karen) Hawley of Panora, Iowa, Laura Lee Thumma of Stanwood, Wilma Delancy of Anamosa and Linda (Ken) Gravert of Florida; and her companion, Gordon Johnson of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin D. Clark; a daughter, Bette Ann Gifford; a son, Mark B. Clark; a brother, Wayne Hawley; and a sister, Irene Hawley.
Ruth was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Scranton, Iowa, the daughter of Merle and Alice (Underwood) Hawley. She married Marvin D. Clark on Oct. 18, 1941. in Kahoka, Mo. Ruth worked several years at Killian's Department Store. She retired as an inspector from Rockwell International after 20 years of service.
She was a member of Springville United Methodist Church and St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Springville and Marion. She was known as a great cook and her love for roses. She was an avid bowler competing in many city, state and national tournaments. Later in life Ruth spent many years with her companion, Gordon Johnson, traveling and wintering in Sarasota, Fla.
