Kathleen L. Clark, 80, of Iowa City, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Mercy Iowa City from cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Iowa City. Father John Spiegel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A parish wake service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
Kathleen was born April 23, 1931, in Clinton, the daughter of Joseph and Leona (Mousel) Tague.
Growing up with seven brothers and sisters, the family lived in DeWitt and Belle Plaine. Kathleen graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1949. She then received her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.
She married Thomas B. “Tom” Clark on March 28, 1953, at St. Michaels Church in Belle Plaine.
Kathleen worked as a registered nurse at various hospitals in both California and Iowa. She worked for Dr. Phil McLaughlin's family practice office for 22 years, retiring in 1989.
When the couple returned to Iowa, they moved to Marcy Street in Iowa City and later to Eastwood Drive. Kathleen made Eastwood Drive her home for 40 years and always made the effort to be “part of her neighborhood.” Kathleen moved to Knotting Hill Lane in recent years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. A very active volunteer in the community, Kathleen gave back of her talents and time to many caring health service organizations in the area.
Kathleen is survived by her children, son Jeffrey (Virginia) Clark of Mount Vernon, daughter, Joanie (Mike) Donovan of Iowa City; grandsons, Thomas Clark of Vermillion, S.D., Jared Clark, Joseph Donovan and Michael Donovan; sister, Nancy Boies of Keystone; a brother, Paul Tague of Tama; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom in 1990; three sisters; and two brothers.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Crestview Care Center in West Branch for their wonderful care the past two years. The family also offers their thanks to the staff at Mercy Hospital for their special care, which reflected her passion of the profession that Kathleen had chosen many years ago.
