Clarice Elizabeth Hinds, 91, of Marion, died Thursday, April 23, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Cedar Memorial Park
Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Clarice was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Olin, Iowa, to Ralph and Tillie (Zaruba) Coppess. After graduating from high school, she attended business college. On Jan. 22, 1945, Clarice was united in marriage to Francis G. "Frank" Hinds in Chicago.
She was employed by Rockwell Collins as an office manager until her retirement in 1972. She was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church in Marion. Clarice loved to give of her time and talents through her extensive volunteer work. She was a volunteer bookkeeper for the Marion Food Pantry for 30 years and a previous volunteer with the Visiting Nurses. She was a past officer of Order of the Eastern Star and a mother advisor of Rainbow Girls. She also was a Den Mother to the Cub Scouts.
Clarice enjoyed to read, and when she was younger, she was talented at sewing and making clothes for herself and her family. She and her husband enjoyed travelling and camping in their motor home.
Clarice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frank Hinds; son, Larry (Susan) Hinds of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Sara (Tom) Hanley of Ankeny and Kerrin (Clint) Andrle of Dallas Center; and seven great-grandchildren, Grace, Mason, Mary, Sally and Susan Hanley and Milo and Jane Andrle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ralph Coppess; and sister, Dorothy "Toots" Wageman.
Memorials in Clarice's honor may be made to First United Methodist Church of Marion.
