Clarice Eileen Hanks, 92, of Tipton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, also at Fry's. Interment to follow at Tipton Masonic Cemetery.
Memorials in Clarice's honor may be directed to Cedar Manor Expansion Fund, Stanwood Union Church or Trinity Lutheran Church, Tipton. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.
Clarice was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa, on Nov. 12, 1923, to Frank and Ruth (Gulliver) Peterman. She attended and graduated from Tipton High School, with the Class of 1942. She then attended Tipton (Junior) College. Clarice married the late Russell Schwitzer in 1945. They later divorced. She married Wilbert Brender in 1987 and Charles Hanks in 1998, both of whom have passed away. Clarice was blessed with five children, Ron, Karen, Linda, Joleen and Dennis.
Clarice worked at her brother Don's restaurant in Stanwood for many years. She then worked at Procter & Gamble, where she was the first female forklift driver, until her retirement in 1987. Clarice loved to bake, read, sew, crochet and work in the yard. She was a member of Stanwood Union Church.
Surviving Clarice are her children, Ronald (Kathy) Schwitzer of New Port Richey, Fla., Karen Curran of Bensonville, Ill., Linda (Duane) Bachus of Durant and Joleen (Leon) Carpenter of Tipton; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Carol Lamp, Linda (Greg) Pritchard, Susan (Babe) Brender, Joyce (Ted) Besley and Richard (Lois) Brender; and stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; infant son, Dennis; brothers, Donald, Dale and Jeff Peterman; and sister Dolly Tullis.
