CLARENCE RUSSELL SULLIVAN
Monticello
Clarence Russell Sullivan of Monticello, died Monday, April 17, 2017, at home with his family. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, April 20, at the Jones County Fairgrounds Youth Development Center. Family visitation at 1 p.m. with the service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.
Clarence was born Aug. 25, 1928, to Leo and Lelia Nabholtz Sullivan, the fifth of seven children. He grew up in Buchanan County. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. Clarence married Delores Emmert Mulligan on June 10, 1960. Together they farmed in eastern Iowa.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Delores; and his five children and their families, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph R. Sullivan, USA (Ret) (Patty) of Nokesville, Va., Mark (Sherry) of Indianola, David (Darla) of Adel, Ed (Mary) Mulligan of Olin and Helen (Jeff) Edwards of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one brother, Don (Linda) Sullivan of Lamont.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
The family requests no flowers. A memorial fund is being established.
Clarence is lovingly remembered for his fun humor, calmness in trials and the deep love and joy he gifted his family and friends.
