Clarence was born May 5, 1921, in Eldorado, Okla., the son of George and Amy (Clonts) Brannon. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He moved to Iowa City in 1965, where he had spent a career in the carpentry and plastering business. On June 9, 1977, he married Dorothy Marie Reece Fuhrmeister.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and the American Legion, all in Iowa City. He loved playing cards at the legion, enjoyed going gambling, was proud to have served his country in the Navy and was one that forgot little, even in his later years. He was once referred to as the "Walking, Talking History Book" for his knowledge and ability to remember most anything!
His family includes four daughters, Barb Brolik (Bill) of Cedar Rapids, Paulette Williams of Jefferson City, Mo., Shirley Hamond (Mike Biles) of Louisville, Ky., and Connie Hanson (Russell) of Iowa City; son-in-law, David McCune (David) of Iowa City; 13 grandchildren, Anna Foy, Alicia Porter, David Porter, Cathy Porter, Donnie Westcott, Christina Surface, Danelle LaFarge, Paul Thompson, Teresa Thompson, Mike Hanson, Daniel Hanson, Mindy McCune and Matthew McCune; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, including a couple of his favorites, Caroline Flower and Russ Bowers; and a longtime dear friend, Mel McMorris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; daughter, Bonnie McCune; three brothers; and two sisters.
