Clare D. Hartmann, 74, of Marion, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at First Lutheran Church located at 1000 Third Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Steve Knudson officiating. Interment will be at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Clare was born on Oct. 16, 1948, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Beverly Hamilton. She was a 1966 graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High School and went on to attend St. Luke’s School of Nursing. On April 15, 1972, Clare was united in marriage to John Hartmann at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and St. Luke’s Hospital as a registered nurse for her entire career with a pause to raise her children. Clare loved vacationing with family at Lake Hubert in Minnesota. Her Crandall Drive neighborhood family was of great importance to her. She was a very active grandmother, enjoying many dance recitals and sporting events. Clare will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Clare is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, John of Marion; children, Brian (Melissa) Hartmann of Peoria, Ill., Mark (Heather) Hartmann of Peoria, and Elizabeth (Darron) Dolezal of Toledo, Iowa; grandchildren, Aubrey, Taylor, Grant, Jenna, Andrew, Adelyn, Finley and Declan; and brothers-in-law, Marvin Hartmann and Kenneth (Judy) Hartmann, all of DeWitt, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Beverly; and sister-in-law, Carol Schunter.
