Claire Ellen Hockley

Claire Ellen Hockley passed peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2025 after a bout with cancer. She was born Claire Ellen Rosenberg in New Haven, Connecticut on August 22, 1949 to parents, Louis and Frances. In 1962 the Rosenberg Family legally changed their name to Ross and relocated to Madison, Wisconsin.
In 1967, Claire graduated from Madison West High School and subsequently attended the University of Iowa, and finished her degree in Nursing at Merritt College in Oakland, California. After working as a nurse in England and Scotland, Claire returned to Iowa City, where she spent the majority of her nursing career at the University of Iowa Hospital, specializing in dialysis care.
Claire loved her family and friends, cats, music, and Halloween. She also loved traveling throughout the United States and Europe, especially England, Scotland, Sweden and Poland, visiting family and friends.
Claire lived life to the fullest as she joyfully danced through the world. She will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Terndrup, her brother, Jeff Alan Ross, sister-in-law, Diane Ross, and her nieces, Melodey Colyer and Harmony Ross. There was a private ceremony held on July 9, 2025. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are caring for Claire and her family.
Donations can be made in her honor to the Iowa City Hospice.
