Claire "Joan" Brown, 99, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Lantern Park
Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Trinity
Episcopal Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be at the church from 9 until 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tiffin.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice.

Claire Joan Mead was born Jan. 23, 1915, in London, England, the daughter of Arthur George Phelps Mead and Clara Weekes Mead. Following high school she attended and graduated from St. James Secretarial College in London. She worked for Soper and Co. there until moving to the United States in 1946. Here she married Paul C. Brown on June 9, 1946, in Silver Springs, Md. The couple moved to Iowa City in 1966.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was active in the choir and Altar Guild and had served as a vestry member and senior warden. Joan also was a member of Order of Eastern Star and Music Club.
Her family includes nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1967; a stepson, a sister and her parents.
