CLAIR JULIUS HEPKER
Center Point
Clair Julius Hepker, 93, of Center Point, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, surrounded by family. A Masonic service conducted by Benton City Masonic Lodge 81 will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. The family will greet friends following the Masonic service until 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Center Point United Methodist Church, Center Point, conducted by Pastor Mike Ellson. Burial will follow at Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.
Clair was born May 29, 1925, in Toddville, Iowa, the son of Julius and Marie (Dumond) Hepker. He graduated from Toddville High School and then worked as a truck driver for Fruehauf, Bos Lines and Briggs trucking companies. He also was employed at Center Point-Urbana schools as a bus driver. On April 10, 1945, in Toddville, Clair was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Freeman. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 238 and Center Point United Methodist Church, and a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge. Clair enjoyed driving buses for the Center Point-Urbana High School sports teams and was an avid and loyal Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. Clair was very much a family man and attended all activities of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, David (Karen) Hepker of Delhi and Robert (Kay) Hepker of Center Point; daughters, Karen (Jim) Shore of Cedar Rapids and Cheryl (Steve) Brecht of Center Point; brother, Stanley (Donna) Hepker of Center Point; sister-in-law, Alma Freeman of Center Point; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Clair was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; and brother, Delmar Hepker.
