Christopherson, Thelma L.
Thelma L. Christopherson, 93, of Legacy Pointe, Iowa City, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 123 E. Market St., Iowa City, with Pastor Karl Devine Koch officiating. Private family burial will be before the service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Thelma Lois (Finstuen) Christopherson was born April 12, 1918, in Binford, N.D., the daughter of Peter John Finstuen and Getta (Bjugan) Finstuen. Thelma was raised and educated in the Binford area. She was united in marriage to Clifford R. Christopherson, from Sutton, N.D., on Dec. 21, 1940. Thelma and Clifford moved to Washington State in 1941, where they continued to reside until moving to Iowa City in 1997.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Diane (Philip) Hougen of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Beth Hougen (Bridget Snell) of Madison, Wis., and Mark (Jennifer) Hougen of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Henry Hougen of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Ruth Moe of Anacortes, Wash., and Evelyn Bruns of Manitowoc, Wis.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; three brothers; and three sisters.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Legacy Pointe and Dr. Fred Ovrom.
