CHRISTOPHER "HARLEY" HABER
Cedar Rapids
Christopher "Harley" Haber, 46, a resident of Davenport, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on March 14, 2017, while vacationing with his wife in Jamaica.
Those left to cherish his memory include his best friends; Beth, wife of 21 years; daughter, Anna; son, Sam; and pug, Sally Jean.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Chris will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme St., Davenport. The Rev. Anthony J. Herold will be the celebrant. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., downtown Davenport. Following Harley's wishes, the rite of cremation will take place after services.
Christopher Joseph Haber was born Aug. 25, 1970, in Cedar Rapids, a son of Harley and Margo (Lingard) Haber. He was united in marriage to Beth Mueller on Sept. 1, 1995, in Davenport.
Chris obtained his Bachelor of Arts and M.B.A. from St. Ambrose University before co-founding Big Dog Construction and River Valley Homes, while fostering countless downtown Davenport ventures. He took great pride in the beautiful home he built for his family.
Chris will be remembered for his loving devotion to his family, quick wit and sense of humor. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings, NASCAR, Star Wars, Elvis and Megadeth. He was a marvelous cook, connoisseur of salsa and loved grilling outside, even in awful weather.
Chris was a devoted brother (by marriage and blood) to Sarah Sirna, Megan Frost, Matt Haber, Laurie Beggs, Lynne (Steve) Callanan and Don Carl; his parents, Harley and Margo Haber; bonus parents, Margo and Tom Kurtz; bonus brothers and friends, Nick Sirna and Derek Frost; many nieces and nephews; and countless longtime friends. Chris had an unbroken bond and dedication to his grandfather, Joseph John Haber of Bettendorf, whom he deeply admired
In memorial, please make sure to listen to at least one heavy metal song today. Chris would suggest bands such as Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. Any memorial donation can be made to the family, and Beth and the kids will determine a charity to honor his memory.
Chris, winter has come and your watch has ended. We love you.
