Christopher Lars "Chris" Gibson, 50, of Marion, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at his residence under the care of UnityPoint Hospice.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Sunday, June 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, officiated by Certified Celebrant Amy Hart. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon before the service at the chapel.
Chris was born Dec. 23, 1965, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Gerald and Joanne (Fransdal) Gibson. After graduating from Kansas State with a degree in electrical engineering, he began his career with Alliant Energy as an engineer and later as a project manager. His career with Alliant spanned over 25 years, took him across the state of Iowa, and allowed him to call Oelwein, Decorah, Mason City and Marion his home over the years.
Chris was united in marriage to Julie (Gruber) Snitker on Aug. 8, 1998, in Mason City. They blended their family and enjoyed nearly 18 years of marriage together.
Chris loved his job, his work and especially his colleagues. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and watching sports on TV. He loved to spend time with friends, playing darts and catching up. Lately he enjoyed watching cooking shows.
Chris taught many people valuable life lessons. He was a great mentor. He was well-respected. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; stepdaughters, Jodie (Aron) Liebe of Sergeant Bluff, Jamie Snitker of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Jaide Snitker of Marion; four grandchildren, Blake and Emilee Liebe, Kenzo Coleman and Micah Snitker; father, Jerry Gibson of Sioux City; brothers, Steve Gibson of San Diego, Calif., and Hugh Gibson of Peebles, Ohio; as well as two beloved dogs, Sam and Louis.
Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother and his dog, Molly.
A memorial in Chris' name has been established.
