Christopher Alan Hansen, 74, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
Chris was born on July 16, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Marion C. and Voanne J. (Miller) Hansen. He was a graduate of Marion High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Chris was a member of the
American Legion #298. He was an avid 49ers fan, a gun enthusiast, and enjoyed collecting guns. He never saw a gun show he didn’t like! His favorite pastime was reading history, mystery, and Westerns. Never a fan of Iowa winters, he decided to make his home in California, where he worked for Acalanes School District in Lafayette, California, retiring in 2008. He married Cheryl Johnson, but they later divorced. Chris will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Chris is survived and lovingly remembered by his father, Marion Hansen; brother, Scott (Debbie) Hansen; sister, Katharine Spalti; his California family, Bill and Terry Knops and family; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Voanne; and grandparents, Hans and Meta Hansen, Gene Miller, and Fern Kramer.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Cottage Grove Place and Mercy Hospice for their care of Chris.
Memorials in Chris’ memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
