Christoph Trappe, 46, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at his home. Per his wishes, no services are planned at this time. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
Christoph was born on September 25, 1978, in Duisburg, Germany. He was a 1997 graduate of West High School in Iowa City, Iowa, and went on to attend the University of Iowa, earning his bachelor’s degree in journalism. Christoph also played football for the Iowa Hawkeyes during his college career. Following college, Christoph married Rachel Ott on March 9, 2002. He worked in marketing and enjoyed the dynamics of working with clients. Christoph was a New York Yankees and Washington Commanders fan. He liked being outdoors in the summer heat and working out. Most of all, he enjoyed attending his girls’ activities. Christoph will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Christoph is survived by his wife, Rachel Trappe of Cedar Rapids; two children, Sophie and Ellie; mother, Christel Baltruschat of Düsseldorf, Germany; brother, Martin Trappe of Düsseldorf, Germany; sister, Henrike Trappe of Ratingen, Germany; nephew, Theo; his host family, Tony (Chris) Forcucci of Tiffin, Iowa; his mother- and father-in-law, Brian and Dorothy Ott of Fairbank, Iowa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Crystal (Mitch) Thompson of Burlington, Iowa, Gary (Monica) Ott of Fairbank, and Beth (Jordan) Judas of Denver, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maria, and an infant son.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Christoph’s memory may be directed to the family for an educational fund for his daughters.
