Christine Weinbrenner passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at Highland Ridge Care Center at age 90 years.
Chris was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Jacksontown, Ohio, the daughter of John and Margaret (Osburn) Martin. She graduated from high school in Columbus, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Carl Weinbrenner on May 29, 1953. They later divorced. Chris held various secretarial positions in Columbus. In 1960, she moved to Cedar Rapids, where she worked as executive secretary for IBM Corp. and was awarded National Secretary of the Year award and later the Linn County Republican Party. She owned and operated Design & Type Inc. in Columbus and Cedar Rapids and also worked as the first marketing director for Westdale Mall.
In 1998, she moved to Williamsburg, where she remained active in publishing newsletters, such as the Williamsburg Booster Club newsletter, Iowa County Historical Society's Pioneer Heritage News, the "Bluespaper" of Linn County Blues Society in Cedar Rapids and the "Anchor" of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Iowa County Republicans.
Chris enjoyed going to her grandchildren's activities, collecting tea leaf dishes, driving her convertible, listening to blues music and spending time with family.
She is survived by three children, Marc (Beth) Weinbrenner of Williamsburg, Stuart (Joan Buchmeyer) Weinbrenner of Cedar Rapids and Valerie (David) Lesko of Rogersville, Ala.; six grandchildren, Scott (Tauni) Biddle, Eric (Jenny) Biddle, Sean (Julie) Biddle, Nicholaus (fiancee, Emily Hummel) Weinbrenner, Rebecca (Phil) Davidson and Tiffany Lesko; and 18 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband and friend, Carl Weinbrenner; a son, Michael Biddle; and daughter-in-law, Donna Weinbrenner.
Celebration of Life services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
A memorial fund has been established for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
