Christine Steffen, 65, of Monticello passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa after a lengthy battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at United Church of Monticello. The Rev. Ed Moreano will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.
Chris was born Sept. 1, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Coberly) Pederson. She graduated from Monticello High School with the class of 1968 and married Vernon Steffen on April 19, 1969, at the Methodist Church in Buck Creek, Iowa. Chris enjoyed working with people and it was easy for her to find employment in a customer service position in many industries. Together they enjoyed camping, traveling and going to dances. They were also AMWAY representatives. Shopping was a favorite pastime. Chris was a very outgoing and active person who always needed to be "on the go."
She is survived by her husband, Vernon; a daughter, Kimberly (Travis) Sams of Monticello; a grand-daughter, Alexandria Steffen; and a grandson expected soon; her mother, Mary Pederson of Monticello; siblings, Katie (Jim) Bronemann, Lisa (Dennis) Freitas and Cass Pederson, all of Monticello; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; her parents-in-law, Reynold and Frances Steffen; a sister, Mary Jo Koch; two brothers, Neil and Joseph Jr.; two brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
