Christensen, Buell
Buell Christensen, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, after a third and final battle with cancer. Buell's final wishes were cremation and his remains to be taken to his beloved hometown of Minnewaukan, N.D. A graveside service will be held in Minnewaukan at a date yet to be determined. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Buell is survived by his children, Dawn Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Curtis (Kathy) Christensen of Lincoln, Neb., and Buell Christensen Jr. of Mount Vernon; granddaughters, Kelley, Casey and Chloe Christensen; a sister, Ardys Schmid of Minnewaukan, N.D.; a brother, Dean Christensen of Dickenson, N.D.; and sister-in-law, Gwen Christensen of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; and a brother, Gary.
Buell was born April 4, 1940, in Devils Lake, N.D., to Murphy and Esther Christensen. He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1960 and was employed by Rockwell Collins for 35 years, retiring in 1995. He married Donna Zaerr on Aug. 29, 1987. She died Aug. 31, 1999.
Buell loved nothing more than to be boating and fishing.
He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
