Christensen, Augusta
Augusta Christensen, 99, died Friday evening, April 8, 2011, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Private family services will be held for Augusta. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, is caring for Augusta and her family.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Fritz Ahrenholz and Olaf Christensen; six sisters, Mamie Prull, Annie Monk, Sena Rickels, Ida Blohm, Wilhelmina Soper and Anna Brockhohn; and six brothers, Henry Moenk, August Monk, John Monk, George Moenck, Menno Moenk and Conrad Monck.
Augusta Louise Monk was born June 10, 1911, at Langworthy, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Siebels) Monk. She received her education in Langworthy area schools. Augusta later attended beauty school in Cedar Rapids and then operated her own shop in Monticello.
Augusta Monk married Fred “Fritz” Ahrenholtz on Feb. 20, 1930, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. The couple operated a paint store in Monticello for several years and then started farming. He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1960. Augusta then worked as a waitress for many years in the Monticello area. Augusta L. Ahrenholz Siebels married Olaf Christensen on Sept. 12, 1998, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2003.
Augusta was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed her faith on March 28, 1926. She was also the church organist for several years.
