Chittick, Lester C.
Lester C. Chittick, 89, of 202 35th Dr. SE, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call on Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m., and at the chapel after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Laural Sills and husband Dale of Cedar Rapids, and Leone Merchant of Vinton; a brother, Lyle Chittick and wife Pat of Anthem, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Amil Steiger of Davenport; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara L. Chittick; and sister, Lucille Steiger.
Lester was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Hartwick, the son of Roy and Ellen Mae Peterson Chittick. He married Clara Benish on April 23, 1943, in Greenville, Miss. Lester worked for the Cedar Rapids Water Department as a Maintenance Supervisor, retiring in 1977 after 31 years of service. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Elks Club and the American Legion. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and spending winters in Texas.
