Chittick, Ellen L.
Ellen L. Chittick, 94, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at English Valley Care Center in North English. As per her wishes she was cremated. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, with Luke Caster officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Piersol Cemetery near North English.
Ellen Lenore Chittick was born Oct. 21, 1917, in Iowa County, Iowa, a daughter of Frank and Catherine Hayes Wade. She grew up in the Green Valley community near North English. Ellen married Everett E. Chittick on Feb. 11, 1937, at the North English Methodist Church parsonage. They lived in Iowa and Keokuk counties, eventually ending up in South English. Everett preceded her in death in December 1997. Ellen became a resident of English Valley Care Center in July 2008.
Ellen is survived by 15 children, LaVonne Brawner of Arroyo Grande, Calif., Donna Cross of Cedar Rapids, Rose (Jim) Wilcox of Delta, Sanford Chittick of Williamsburg, Jack Chittick of Garrison, Marlene (John) Frasher of Anamosa, Dale (Darlene) Chittick of Williamsburg, Ruth (Mike) Coulter of Oskaloosa, Stanley (Linda) Chittick of Williamsburg, James Chittick of South English, Kay Trimpe of Williamsburg, Linda (Doug) Martin of Sigourney, Robert Chittick of Williamsburg, Annette (Ed) Yoder of Parnell and Dan (Tina) Chittick of Sigourney; daughters-in-law, Maxine Chittick of South English and Lisa Chittick of Ollie; 40 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren: and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Gary and Ronald; grandson, Dustin Chittick; brother, Carroll Wade; sisters, Lucille Cobb and Lavon Wade; sons-in-law, Garry Erie and John Brawner; and daughter-in-law, Irmgard Chittick.
A memorial fund has been established for the English Valley Care Center and Iowa Hospice.
