Chihak, David Lee
David Lee Chihak, 57, of Cedar Rapids, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, June 14, 2012. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at St Ludmila's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Presider Father Dennis Juhl and homilist Jim Berger will officiate. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, where a vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Burial: St Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Chihak; sons, Matthew Chihak and Jeremy (Holly) Chihak, both of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Nancy (Ray) Scienzo of Concord, N.H., Michael (Barbara) Chihak of Florissant, Mo., Joan (Paul) Cook of Palatine, Ill., Alan (Yvonne) Chihak of Burr Ridge, Ill., Carl (Zenny) Chihak of Long Beach, Calif., Lori (Marvin) Wilmes of Boone, Iowa, and Roger (Candace) Chihak of Lisbon, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
David was born May 16, 1955, son of Paul and Shirley (Palmersheim) Chihak, in Ames, Iowa. On May 15, 1982, he was united in marriage to Sharon Mitchell in Newhall, Iowa. David worked as an auto mechanic at Kmart/Penske for 25 years and also at Westside Tire for 10 years.
David was a devoted husband and father and was always involved with the church, he was always eager to lend a helping hand, and would never say no to someone in need.
He enjoyed gardening, tinkering and fixing things.
A memorial fund has been established.
