Chester Leon Fuessley, 80, of Walker, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at his home. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Walker Methodist Church in Walker. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Patrick Munyakazi. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Burial will follow at Troy Mills Cemetery in Troy Mills, Iowa.
Chester was born on June 6, 1942, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Paul and Vera (Powell) Fuessley. He graduated from Troy Mills High School. On Dec. 27, 1961, he was united in marriage to Virginia Mills in Troy Mills. Chester worked for Farm Service for two years, he drove gas truck. He farmed all of his life, starting at the age of 18, in the Troy Mills and Walker area. He was a member of Walker Methodist Church where he taught adult bible study, participated in A Walk to Emmaus, and was a member of the choir. Chester was also a member of the North Linn School Board and several other committees. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching his grandchildren in their school activities, and farming with his sons. Most of all, he enjoyed family gatherings on Sunday evenings. Chester will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Chester is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 61 years, Virginia of Walker; four children, Shane (Julie) Fuessley of Walker, Blair (Wendy) Fuessley of Center Point, Angela (Bernie) Taylor of Cedar Rapids and Holly Fuessley of Portage, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, JoAnn Johnston of Independence; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; and brother-in-law, Geroge Johnston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Chester’s memory may be directed to either Walker Methodist Church or to Mercy Hospice.
