Chester L. Woodman Jr., 88, of Iowa City passed away at Oaknoll Short Stay on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023. Per his wishes, there will be no services at this time.
Chet was born in the summer of 1935 in Caribou, Maine. He was the son of Chester L. Woodman Sr. and Louise (Brown) Woodman. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1957 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
In June 1957 he was united in marriage to Joanne Blanchard. They were blessed with three children, Catherine Woodman (Joel Kline), Charles Woodman (deceased 1969, polio), Jonathan Woodman (Cheryl Duda), four grandsons, Jacob Kline (Alice Baker), Tucker Kline (Sara Petersen), Abraham Kline (Chelsea Kline), Ethan Kline, and three great-grandchildren.
Chet started his career at Ingersoll Rand Company in Painted Post, N.Y., and retired in 2003 from Lincoln Electric Company in Cleveland, Ohio. He and Joanne moved to Iowa City in 2015 to be near their family here.
He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Iowa City Rotary Club, and The American Welding Society.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Rotary International Polio Eradication Fund (https://www.endpolio.org/).
