Cheryll Bartolini Clamon died peacefully at home on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Lodge at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area, 579 McCollister Blvd. A family committal service was held at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation.
Cheryll was born Sept. 6, 1945, the daughter of Bruno and Anita (Conley) Bartolini. She grew up in Ladd, Ill., graduated from Hall High School and Illinois State University, and received a MSW from Washington University. She married Gerry Clamon in 1971 in St Louis. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She had a long professional career in social work and also as a legal assistant. As a social worker she facilitated adoptions, working in Illinois, Iowa, and Virginia, and was a social worker at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She was employed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for many years. She volunteered at the Iowa City Public Library and also served as a mediator in small claims court for more than 20 years. She volunteered for other organizations and served on commissions for Johnson County and the City of Iowa City. She was an enthusiastic amateur photographer and enjoyed visiting Door County.
Most of all, Cheryll loved being a mom and a grandmother. She is survived by her beloved children, Laura Schulz (David Schulz) of Columbia, Mo., and Joseph Clamon (Adrienne McFarland) of Iowa City; and grandchildren, James Schulz, Elizabeth Clamon and Eleanor Clamon. She is also survived by her husband of 51 years, Gerry Clamon
She had many wonderful and supportive friends in Iowa and other states. She was grateful for the wonderful and loving care she received from the physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nursing assistants and all staff at the University of Iowa Hospital over 21 years of illness. She particularly appreciated the expert and supportive care from the Iowa City Hospice these past months.
