Cheryl L. St. Germain-Van Zile, 66, of Toddville, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Jay Jentink will officiate. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
Survivors include her husband, Rich; a son, Benjamin, of Laporte, Minn.; a daughter, Andress Van Zile, from Dodgeville, Wis.; a niece, Dana (Robert) Costas; and a nephew, Matt (Erin) St. Germain. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dennis; and a sister-in-law, Pat St. Germain.
Cheryl was born on May 31, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Cecil and Rita Sandberg St. Germain. She graduated from Upper Iowa University and received her master's degree from Truman State University, formerly Northeast Missouri State.
Cheryl married Richard Van Zile on Nov. 9, 1985, in Cedar Rapids. She was a teacher and coach at Taft Middle School and retired in 2011 after 38 years of teaching.
She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Cheryl enjoyed baking, entertaining and the outdoors, especially water and snow skiing. One of her greatest joys was the time she spent with her beloved family and many friends. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, colleagues and the many students whose lives were enriched by her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center Research in Cheryl's memory.
