Cherry, Raymond Forrest
Raymond Forrest Cherry, 81, of Troy Mills, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Keystone Place, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Troy Mills Christian Church, conducted by Pastor James Wolf. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Center Point. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills, with military honors by Walker Legion Ray Post #376.
Survivors include Michael (Kim) Cherry and Raelyn of Omaha, Neb., Alyssa, Troy and Robyn Cherry all of Phoenix, Ariz., Randa (Bob Caskey) Cherry of Cedar Rapids and their three “cat” children, Marc (Dawn) Cherry and their children Spencer and Canon who reside on the Cherry Family Century Farm in Troy Mills; great-grandchildren, Adrian and Kane of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Arlene Zabokrtsky and Merry Carol Powell (John); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardyth; parents, Forrest and Ola Cherry; and brothers-in-law, Richard Zabokrtsky and Bob Brown.
Raymond was born on March 15, 1931, in Walker, Iowa, son of Forrest and Ola (Krapf) Cherry. He married Ardyth “Ardy” Randa on March 21, 1953, in California at the Highland Lutheran Church. Raymond served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Memorials may be sent to 6126 Rockwell Dr. NE # 126, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
