Cheatham, Joseph
Joseph Cheatham, 59, of Hiawatha, died at his home on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, after battling lung cancer. A memorial gathering is planned for a later date. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph was born Nov. 4, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Virginia (Ferguson) Cheatham. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1971 and Kirkwood Community College in 1973, with a degree in lithography and printing. Joseph worked at Collins Radio, Wagners Printing until it closed and as of late, was with Cedar Graphics.
As a young man, Joseph worked for the Rock Island Railroad and developed a love of trains. He collected model railroad trains and enjoyed watching passing trains. He was a softball player in 1980s and a bass player for many local bands over the years. He also loved his friends at the club.
Joseph is survived by his three sons, Ted (Angela) Johnson-Cheatham of Mechanicsville and Christian Johnson-Cheatham and Patrick (Morgan) Johnson-Cheatham, both of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Maria and Finnegan; and a sister, Barb (Rocky) Kline of Oklahoma.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Virginia Cheatham; and two sisters, Carolyn Merfeld and Dena Clark.
