CHARLOTTE O'THEDA PERRY MILLER
Coralville
Charlotte O'Theda Perry Miller, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, in the palliative care unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a brief illness. Charlotte was a resident at Windmill Manor in Coralville this past year. A memorial service to celebrate Charlotte's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Windmill Manor Nursing Home, (Garden Court), 2332 Liberty Ct., Coralville, IA 52241.
Charlotte was born March 5, 1937, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Howard and Sarah Perry. As a child, her family moved many times due to her father's military career, including cherished times spent in Berlin and Munich, Germany, after World War II.
Her family eventually settled in Ohio, where Charlotte completed high school at Fairmont High in Kettering, Ohio. She attended college at Ohio University, studying fine arts. Charlotte fell in love with Howard Miller, who she first met at six weeks of age because their families were close friends. They were married on Aug. 4, 1956, in Dayton, Ohio.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 61 years; and a sister, Beverly Kitchen of Springfield, Ohio. In addition, her children, Rick (Nancy), Greg (Susan) and Susan (Jeanne Cochran); her grandchildren, Alex Miller (Sarah Bavier), Melissa Tvedte (Ben), Nick Miller and Casey Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Brecken and Audrey Tvedte.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Perry of Emmaus, Pa.
Charlotte was employed for 18 years at Rockwell Collins as a PCB designer. She enjoyed bowling, golf, swimming, playing cards and games, and a good glass of wine. She enjoyed painting and sharing her artistic talents with others. Friends and family were important to Charlotte. She valued the relationships she had with those she loved. She made friends easily and was always willing to help those in need. Years ago, she wrote to her granddaughter that what she and Howard enjoyed most was watching their children participate in all of their endeavors and ambitions. Her wish for the future was for peace and tolerance in the world, and that was evident to anyone who knew her.
