Charlotte Mae Myers, 94 of Iowa City, formerly of Oxford, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, January 11, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the funeral home. A burial will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
Charlotte was born on January 20, 1930, in Vinton, IA, the daughter of Walter Hiram Gunn and Frankie Matilda Jacobs. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1948. Charlotte worked at the ASCS office where she met the love of her life, Guy Myers. They were united in marriage on January 21, 1967, in South Dakota. Together they raised 4 children. Charlotte was a homemaker while her children were little and then when they went to school, she began her clerical career at Clear Creek Elementary School. She later went on to work for the University of Iowa College of Dentistry where she retired in 1997. Charlotte was not one to sit and twiddle her thumbs, so a few months after retiring from the University, she started a part-time job at ACT, which in the end became a full-time job, where she worked well into her eighties. However, first and foremost in her life was her family. Sundays were devoted to family time, which included spending the day with her, playing games and enjoying her fried chicken, which was everyone’s favorite. She had a big heart and would often prepare and share her famous caramel bars with family and friends.
Charlotte is survived by her four children, Robert (Diana) Husted of Bremerton, WA, Chris Phillips, Char (John) Maher, and Connie (Jim) McCurdy all of Iowa City, IA; five grandchildren, Kyle (Jatara) Husted of Japan, Elizabeth and Sean Phillips of Iowa City, Amanda (Brennon) Clark of Cedar Rapids, and Michael McCurdy of Iowa City; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Katie Husted of Japan.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy Myers; seven siblings, Florence Ivadell, Allen Dale, Floyd Harrison, Lauren Noel, Boyd Laverne, Mary Rosella, and Shirley Ann; son-in-law, Jay Phillips; and two grandchildren, Guy Husted and Caitlyn Maher.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Iowa City Hospice for their support and compassion during Charlotte’s illness.
