Charlotte J. Hawkins, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died at her home on Monday, March 14, 2016. Services:
1 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Survivors include her daughter, Ruthann Gharib, and son, Kristofer, both of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Joan True of Green Castle, Mo.; and a brother, Pete Frenell of Barstow, Ill. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Justin, Jordan and Nicole; five great-grandchildren, Aiden and Gavin Gharib, Skylar and Harper Wims and Charlie Scott; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; and a brother, Leslie Frenell.
Charlotte was born on Oct. 31, 1923, in Barstow, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Julia Franklin Frenell. She married Earl A. Hawkins on Dec. 28, 1946, in Geneseo, Ill. Earl passed away in 2002.
Charlotte was a media secretary at Pierce Elementary in Cedar Rapids for over 17 years, retiring in 1989. During World War II, she worked at the Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill.
She enjoyed playing bridge, was an avid bowler and a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. Charlotte was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
The family would like to thank the staff at West Ridge Care Center and St. Luke's Hospice, especially Amy, for the wonderful care given to Charlotte.
