Charlotta Ann Toth-Fisher, 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at her residence in Mount Auburn of thymus cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton with Father Jim Brokman as celebrant. Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton from 2 to

5 p.m. with a Scripture service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Vinton.

Charlotta was born June 7, 1943, in Wilkinsburg, Pa., the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Shriver Celender. Following her graduation from Wilkinsburg High School, she attended Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1966. Nursing was very important to her. She held various positions in Pennsylvania and Iowa. She worked for many years at the Vinton Lutheran Home and retired from St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids in 2011. She was dedicated to the nursing profession and enjoyed being a preceptor to several students at St. Luke's. She always was trying to talk someone into becoming a nurse.

Charlotta married Jim Toth in 1966 and the couple later divorced. On July 3, 1992, she was united in marriage with Nick Fisher in Vinton.

Charlotta was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton. She enjoyed baking bread, reading cookbooks and trying new recipes. She made great holiday meals for the family and never ran out of food, even though she always worried that she would. Charlotta also enjoyed watching CNN, raising chickens, knitting, gardening and listening to music, and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. She was a very loving and caring person who enjoyed helping others.

She had friends from several circles that she enjoyed being with, including friends from her knitting group, friends from the Breast Cancer Survivor Group (she was a longtime survivor of breast cancer), friends from work that she met with for lunch, and friends from the Garrison Library and musicians who performed in Garrison.

Charlotta was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and cousin. She cared deeply for all her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Nick, of Mount Auburn; two sons, Christopher (Esther) Toth of Cedar Rapids and Brendan (Lisa) Rule of Vinton; three daughters, Rachel (Jerry) Dedrick, Taraca (Dean) Brown and Lori Dedrick, all of Vinton; one sister, Nancy Ball, and her daughters, Robyn and Rebecca, of Pittsburgh; 13 grandchildren; and special nephew and niece, Henry Fisher of Des Moines and Zora Fisher of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial fund has been established.
