Charles "Yogi" Walsh passed away Aug. 24, 2016, after a long battle with his health. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Charles was born July 25, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Charles and Esther Mae (Flood) Walsh. He was a graduate of Wilson High School, Class of 1954. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. He graduated from college in St. Louis as a diesel mechanic and moved back to Cedar Rapids, where he met the love of his life, Marilyn J. Walsh. They were soon married on Sept. 1, 1962, and had their son, Michael C. Walsh.
Charles worked at Midland Forge until he retired. Soon after retirement, he quickly took up the game of golf.
Some of his life's greatest joys were watching his son and granddaughter drag race, going to car shows and watching Yankees baseball. During his life he got his pilot's license and loved all things surrounding automobiles, including his 1969 Roadrunner. Charles was a member of the VFW.
Charles is survived by his son, Michael (Julie) Walsh; his granddaughter, Morgan Walsh; and his step-granddaughter, Elisa (Brian) Atwood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Walsh; his parents, Charles and Esther Mae Walsh; and his brothers and sisters.
Charles will be greatly missed.
