Charles 'Wayne' Williams
CHARLES "WAYNE" WILLIAMS
Cedar Rapids
Wayne was born in Wisconsin at the beginning of the Great Depression. His young life was on a farm outside Blue River. He served his country in the USAF in Wichita Falls, Texas. While there, he met and married the love of his life, Corene Lovett.
His career after the Air Force was in the shoe business. This business took him from Texas to Wisconsin, to Oklahoma and to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There he eventually purchased his own stores (The Shoe Horn they were called) and he and Corene ran the stores from 1972 to 1994, when they retired and moved to Kansas.
Wayne was fully devoted to his wife and four children (Vickie, Helen, Mark and Carolyn). He also had a deep commitment to God and was a member of the Church of Christ from 1956 to the present. He served as an elder in the Central Church of Christ in Cedar Rapids for 20 years. Wayne was as good a servant, as good a leader and as good a friend as the good old church knew.
Graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy, Kan. For the safety of all attending, masks are requested.
