Charles Waid “Pete” Peters, 88, of Urbana, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, from complication of dementia at the Lutheran Living Center in Vinton, Iowa, with his wife by his side. As per Pete’s wishes, he was cremated. A Graveside Service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Urbana Memorial Cemetery in Urbana with a Celebration of Life to immediately follow from 1 – 3 p.m. at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids.
Pete was born July 20, 1937, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Charles and Ruth (McClintock) Peters. He grew up in the Urbana and Walker areas. Pete graduated from Walker High School in 1955. He joined the United States Marines Corps and served from 1957 – 1959. Pete joined the Cedar Rapids Police Department in 1967 and retired in 1988 as Lieutenant of Detectives. Also in 1967, he met his soulmate, Carol Weber. Pete and Carol were married on December 5, 1967, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Pete was an avid Miami Dolphins and New York Yankees fan. He also loved fishing, gardening, and spending time with family.
Pete is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Peters; children, Lorene (Tom) Spencer, Mark (Jacqueline) Peters, and Lisa (Jeff) Holten; grandchildren, Jory (Melanie) Holten, Jakob Peters, Tanner (Dawne) Holten, Kade Peters, Karliegh Peters, Ben, Nick, Alex, and Kaleb Holsinger, Tucker, Emnie, Creed and Dazia Peters; great-grandchildren, Bryar, Briggs, Brooks Holten; sisters-in-law, Susan (Chuck) Walthart, Pat (Bob) Havlik, Mary (Bill) Maddox, Jealee Weber; son-in-law, Brad Holsinger; two stepbrothers; two stepsisters; and additional great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Charlie and Minnie McClintock, whom he adored; daughter, Deanna Holsinger; son Kurt Peters; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Rollie Weisphenning; in-laws, Bud and Fran Weber; sister-in-law, Barb Devita; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Marsha Weber; brother-in-law, Paul Weber; and one stepbrother.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in honor of Pete.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Lutheran Living Center in Vinton for their excellent care of their husband and dad while Pete was there. Also, thank you to UnityPoint Hospice for their care during this time.
