Charles D. "Chuck" Vargason, 51, longtime resident of Iowa City and Coralville, died suddenly Friday, Feb. 7, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations can be made in Chuck's memory to the American Heart Association or to the charity of your choice in his memory.

Charles David Vargason was born Feb. 3, 1963, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the son of Delbert E. and Ruth Ella (Van Sant) Vargason. Growing up in Coralville, he attended schools in the Iowa City Community District, Coralville Central Elementary, Kirkwood Elementary, Northwest Junior High and graduated from West High School in 1981. He then attended and graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's in English literature. For a time he lived and coached in Lake Stevens, Wash. But he returned to Iowa City where for a number of years worked for the school district.
Chuck enjoyed his life, his vast travels around the world, the many friends he made growing up and ones during his adult years from all over, his avid love for the Iowa Hawkeyes, men or women, football, basketball and, of course, wrestling, as he still had it in his blood from high school days at West High! He was known to be quite the cook, often using his produce from his gardens. You could find him at the gym keeping that large frame of a man fit. If you didn't know Chuck, that didn't last long, he didn't want to be a stranger to anyone! He was always looking to help those who needed help the most, those in our world who didn't have what they needed. Chuck made sure they knew they had a friend. He shared his love of God with all he met.
His family includes his mother and stepfather, Ruth and Richard Moel of Marion; brother and his wife, Leonard and Lynn Vargason of Cedar Rapids; three nieces, Alicia, Cynthia and Ericka; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert; and grandparents.
