CHARLES PAUL PISARIK
Hiawatha
Charles Paul Pisarik, 74, of Hiawatha, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital. A private, family memorial service will be held March 18 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The service will be officiated by Father Gary Mayer of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, where he was a member.
Charles was born Aug. 22, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles Joseph and Pauline (Pirkl) Pisarik. He attended Washington High School and served in the U.S. Army. A lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha, he worked in the building trades before adopting a career as an over-the-road truck driver. He retired as a dispatcher from Heartland Express in 2008.
He and Susan (Monthie) Church were married in 1985, enjoying 36 years together. In retirement, the two escaped Iowa's winters on trips to warm beaches in Hawaii and Florida. The memories made during family vacations will always be cherished.
An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed fishing Iowa's lakes and rivers and hunting pheasants in fall cornfields. He was also drawn to the Northwoods of Wisconsin for annual trips. Charles was an avid gardener, enjoyed collecting unusual rocks, bird watching, shelling in Florida, reading and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; three daughters, Paula (Chris) Streeper of Coralville, Lisa (Stacy) Gross of North Liberty and Dana Chappuie of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Lauren (Tyler) Sawyer, Abby Gross (Austin Sawyer, finance), Charlie Chappuie (Brooke Selby), Megan Gross and Dylan Chappuie; four great-grandchildren, Jaylyn, Landon, Brody and Gunner Sawyer (and another one on the way this summer); his brother, Stephen (Ann) Pisarik of Des Moines; brother in-law, Richard Monthie (Julie) of Cedar Rapids; along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father in-law, Richard and Lola Monthie.
He will be dearly missed as a loving husband, dedicated father and caring grandparent. He took great pride and joy in his family, and he will always be remembered.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to St. Joseph's Indian School or Cedar Valley Humane Society.
