Charles Cephas Peal, of Bertram, died Friday, June 1, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center after a bicycle accident. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his mother, Clara Marx; significant other, Kay Studt; children, Zachary Peal, Chelsea Dowdell and TJ Dowdell; his steps, Farrah (Brad) Groomes, Bill (Emily) Studt, Shane (Shamra) Studt and Robert (Sara) Studt; 16½ grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Bonnie) Peal, Gary (Sandy) Marx, Kevin (Mia) Marx, Sherry (Louis) Gray, Linda (Dave) Stoneking and Rita (Richard) Peyton; uncle, Donald Marx; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was called Pappa by all his grandkids.
Chuck was born May 14, 1958, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1976. Chuck received a machinist's certificate from Kirkwood Community College, which he put to good use in several machine shops in the area.
Chuck will be remembered as a fun-loving guy who had a heart of gold. He loved the feeling of freedom and relaxation he got while riding his motorcycle or bowling. While he didn't pull any punches and set definite limits with consequences, he was a loving father who would help anyone who needed his help.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Marx.
