Charles Richard "Dick" Gray, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in his home of natural causes. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is caring for Dick and his family.
Dick was born Sept. 1, 1932, in Cedar Rapids. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1950, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. In 1954, he married Dee, his wife of 53 years, until she preceded him in death in 2007. Dick worked his entire career for the U.S. Postal Service in Cedar Rapids, and enjoyed 30 years of retirement since 1987.
In addition to his wife, Dee, Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Damon and Cozine Gray; and two brothers.
Survivors include a son, Michael (Beth) Gray; a daughter, Sally (Jeff) Rundel; four grandchildren, Morgan Gray (Eric Caldwell), Nicholas Gray, Joshua Rundel and Troy Rundel; six great-grandchildren, Christian, Olivia, Harrison, Esme, Lucy and Zoey; and three brothers, David, Donald and Dennis Gray. Dick also is survived by his special friend, Donna Wray Schirm, with whom he shared his life for the past several years.
Dick touched many lives and had many wonderful lifelong friendships. He will be greatly missed.
