Charles Frank Gordon, 81, formerly of Belle Plaine, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018, at The Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa, Wis.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2018, at First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine, with Pastor Dean Duncan officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Rector Cemetery, Chelsea, Iowa, with military honors. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.hrabakfuneralhome.com.
Charles, the son of Archie and Iva (Finch) Gordon, was born Jan. 23, 1937, in Carpenter, Iowa. He graduated in 1954 from Carpenter High School and received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1965. On Nov. 15, 1969, he married Zina Graham at First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine. Together the couple lived in Belle Plaine, where Charles was employed at Funk's G until the plant moved operations in 1988. Following this, he was employed at Strayer Seed Farms in Hudson, Iowa, Friedman Distributing and Meskwaki Casino. He spent countless weekends assisting with sales at Weeda Auction Service.
The couple moved to West Allis, Wis., in 2011 to live with their daughter, Heather, and her family.
Charles was a longtime volunteer EMT on the Belle Plaine Ambulance Service. He began every day with a pot of coffee and the newspaper. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
He is survived by his sons, Mark (Jill) Gordon of Lathrop, Mo., and Nicholas Gordon of Milwaukee, Wis.; daughter, Heather (Darren) Rausch of West Allis, Wis.; grandchildren, Blake Gordon and Braeden, Nolen and Emmalee Rausch; sisters, Janice Walter of Ames, Iowa, and Shirley Shetka of Schaumburg, Ill.; sister-in-law, Karen Graham of Madison, Wis., and many more loving family and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Zina Gordon; brothers-in-law, Marvin Walter and Keith Bevins; sisters-in-law, Wilma Bevins and Roberta Howes; nephews, David Bevins and Gary Bevins; and nieces, Terri (Shetka) Koestner and Sheryl Bevins.
