Charles A. Ellis of Fairfax died Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Burial, with military rites: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela (Steve) Garner of Gresham, Ore., and Melanie (Bryan) Abel of Cedar Rapids; a son, Joseph (Marge) of Higbee, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; daughter, Rene; grandson, Jeff; great-grandson, Noah; four brothers and one sister.
Charles was born April 19, 1923, in Waterloo, the son of Andrew and Lola Knox Ellis. He married Anna M. Price on Sept. 21, 1965, in Chicago. Anna passed away in 2007.
Charles was a painter at St. Luke's Hospital for over 30 years, retiring in 1986.
He enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, fishing, hunting and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was an avid and champion horseshoe player and proudly served in the Navy during World War II.
Charles had a real devotion to not only his beloved family, but to Jesus.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established.
