Charles "Chuck" William Bartunek, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 25, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf House. A celebration of life of service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Brosh Chapel.
Charles was born May 27, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Rose (Novotny) Bartunek. Chuck served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed on the USS Kidd 661 in the Pacific Theater. He earned the Purple Heart during battle on the day of April 11, 1945. Chuck was united in marriage to Mabel "Ruth" Flochart on Feb. 6, 1948, in Stanwood. He worked for over 40 years at FMC Linkbelt Speeder, until retiring in 1982. Chuck enjoyed golfing, fishing, being a diehard Cub fan, visiting the Westside Lounge, as well as spending time with his family.
Chuck is survived by his sons, William Bartunek and Steve Bartunek; a granddaughter, Amy Bartunek; one great-grandson, Quentin Bartunek, all of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Keith (Gerry) Flochart of Lisbon; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; his son, Gary Bartunek; his sister, Geraldine Boots; and a cousin, Johnny Pesina.
