Charles "Chuck" Edward Babcock Sr., 77, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at his home surrounded by his beloved family. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at the funeral home, with Coffee Club at 4 o'clock. As Chuck would, please wear casual attire. Burial: Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons, Steve Babcock and Charlie (Sarah) Babcock; daughters, Cindy (Rick) Osborn and Teresa (Mickey) Hines; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard and Dee; sisters- and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and the "4 o'clock Coffee Club."
Chuck was born in Eagle Grove on Feb. 2, 1939, to Marion and Irene (Klasse) Babcock. He was a truck driver for many years, and served in the National Guard from 1960 to 1963. He married Ramona Spencer on March 19, 1960, in Elk Point, S.D. The family moved from Fort Dodge to Mount Vernon in 1976. Charles was a member of Teamsters Local 238, enjoyed polka music and playing the accordion, watching Westerns, going to the casino and playing the lottery. He enjoyed seeing friends at the 4 o'clock Coffee Club and spending time with his cherished family.
He will be missed by everyone who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mona; two brothers; one sister; and one granddaughter, Melissa.
