CHARLES ALBERT "CHUCK" PALMBERG
Iowa City
Charles Albert "Chuck" Palmberg, 75, of Iowa City, died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, after a long struggle with pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Born in Burlington, Iowa, on July 27, 1943, to Jeanette and Richard Palmberg, Chuck graduated from Burlington High School, where he played guard for the Grayhound football team that won the mythical state championship in 1959. He went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Coe College and his MFA degree in sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Chuck worked as an animator in Evanston, Ill., before moving to Iowa City in 1975 and taking a job as a custodian at First United Methodist Church, where he also was an active member. He enjoyed creating art, telling jokes, watching the stock market and doting on his grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons, Mark Palmberg (Leah Klevar) and Scott Palmberg, both of Iowa City; brother, Tom (Sherry) Palmberg of Columbus, N.C.; grandchildren, Ava Palmberg and Emmett Palmberg, both of Iowa City; nephews, Andrew Palmberg and Michael Palmberg; and former spouse, Mary Palmberg of Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.
