Charlene Frances Wharton, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with family by her side. The visitation for Charlene will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Charlene was born on April 26, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of Leo J. and Nellie (Primmer) Stanek. She married Walter Royal Wharton, August 3, 1958, in Covington, Iowa. After 47 years of marriage, Walter died in November of 2005 from Alzheimer’s.
Charlene enjoyed roller skating, bowling and spending time with family and friends. Charlene worked as a lab technician for Penick Ford Company, Iowa State Soil Testing Lab, Cedar Rapid’s Water Department and the Linn County Health Department. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, the National Women’s Bowling Association, and the Cedar Rapids Chapter of American Businesswomen’s Association.
Charlene is survived by her brother Marvin (Doris) Stanek of Walford, Iowa; her sister Beverly (Scott) Sonnkalb of Ripon, Wisconsin; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, grandparents; Joseph F. and Edith (Conrad) Stanek, Clarence and Vera (Budd) Primmer.
