Chapman, LaVerne 'Sam'

LaVerne “Sam” Chapman, 77, of Central City, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Jordan's Grove Church, Central City, by Pastor Steve Russell. The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: Jordan's Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; children, Randy (Valerie) Chapman of Cedar Rapids, Sheri Chapman and Dan Emig of Ely, Jan Chapman of Ely and Gary Chapman of Marion; and four grandchildren, Matt and Devin Chapman, Rachael Emig, and Cassy Chapman.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Laverne was born Oct. 27, 1934, in Des Moines, the son of Myrtle (Kruger) Chapman. He married Norma Coonfare on Sept. 25, 1955, in Edgewood. He worked with Farmstead Foods and was a member of Jordan's Grove Church.

Memorials may be directed to North-Linn Ambulance or Jordan's Grove Church in LaVerne's memory.
